The objective

2) The learner acquires the basic skill of web design
3) The learner understands the basic function of Dream Weaver(DW)
4) The learner understands what the good design is for Web.
The program
1) The review of the previous day.
2) What is the good design for Web? - discussion
3) Why we have to resize the picture for Web.
4) Let's learn how to use PHOTOSHOP for make picture for Web!
- Practice of Photoshop
5) The steps of making Web Pages
6) Making your profile page

The achievement of the today's workshop is to complete profile web site. Before working to make profile web site, the instructor, Yasuko, gave some samples and demonstration. After the demonstration, teachers worked to make their own profile web and then they evaluate each other as to understand the good design for Web.

One of learner made use of Logo of UNRWA, therefore we have learnt about copyright also. Sometimes, people use the logo and pictures from internet without any permission. It will be big problem because of copy right. We confirmed not to use the official logo such as UNRWA and the pictures from internet etc.

Most of teachers made colorful website. However the web should be made considering the audience. The learners have learnt how to use color. To use color for web, there are logical theory from the perspective of philosophy. The instructor will introduce the suitable combination of the color.

In the workshop, it is not only the practice, but the learner discussed many things. For example, what is the good design, what is the better combination of color, what is the image of the web, what is the flow to make web and so on. It is not enough time to learn Web producing for only 4 days, but the instructor hoped that the learner learn the basic of web design.

Note; One of the teacher, named Mohamad, said that the mutual evaluation was very useful to understand what is the good design for Web. After making the profile web, each teacher looked at other's teachers Web and discussed what is good and what the things to be improve are. Though this kind of discussion, teachers understood more about the design and color to produce the Web.

Day 1 Web workshop

Date; 2007/Aug/11 at 9; 00-12; 00
Place; DTC
The participants ; 19 learners, 5 Japanese staffs
The translator; Kamal, Iyad, Jamal

Today, there were more participants we had expected. In the teacher's list, 15 teachers were registered but in fact there are 20 participants. Therefore, at the beginning of the workshop, there was a bit problem to prepare more computers because we have already informed the staffs of DTC (Mr. Khaled and Mr. Mohamad) to prepare 18 computers at most.

Thanks to big support from Mr. Khaled and Mr. Mohamad, the workshop was very interesting and dynamic. They took care of each learner according to their interest and level of skill.

The workshop was conducted based on Learner centered and all teachers involved in all process of producing web site. However, there are big difference in skill and knowledge of Web between teachers so that it was easy for the teachers who know about Web well. However, there are very dynamic learning situation because the teachers who know about Web well helped the teacher who are beginner of Web. In natural, there is much collaboration between teachers to learn together.

Of course, there were difficulties of the translation. Mr. Kamal translated into Arabic, but he sometimes went out for another work. Therefore, Mr. Iyad (social study teacher) and Mr. Jamal (English teacher) helped very much to support the translation.

It was very good collaboration between teachers.

Note; Thanks to the good arrangement of Mr. Najim (head EDC), teachers could come and back by micro bus between EDC and DTC. And also, thanks to Mr. Ammouri, the Japanese staffs came by UNRWA car to early time to DTC to prepare. Thanks a lot for the people who support the workshop.

The presentation of the Teachers' Learning Community (TLC)

Date; 2007/August/5 at 9:00 to 11:00
The participants;

Today, 3 TLC made presentation as an outcome of their activity for 2 years. It was very brilliant presentation and it was very dynamic. One of the supervisor said "It was very useful for us to share their experience and knowledge. I have learnt many things for the TLC. I have been working for more than 30 years as a supervisor, but I have not learnt many things like today. Thank you very much".

In fact, the presentation was very useful for the audience. Of course, there are something to be improved, however, most of the contents was interesting for the audience.

After the presentation, the presentation and audience discussed very much about the contents. The parts of the activity of TLC was not new for some supervisors, however, it was good trial that the teachers produce the educational material and cooperate to produce it. So far, the teacher was receiver. The teachers receiver the information, methodology, knowledge, skill, everything from supervisors and trainers. However in the activity the TLC, teachers take initiative and innovate by themselves. Thought their activity and work were not new for the audience, it is meaningful and worth that they produced them and they tool initiative.

There are many perspectives about the TLC, however, most of teachers said that it was very useful to collaborate with other teachers to create educational material and solve the problem together. We took interview from 13 teachers about the TLC so that we will introduce their feed back later.

Day 4 Students' Learning Community (SLC) for environmental education

Date; 2007/August/4 at 9:00 to 13:30
The Place; Sarafand Learning Resource Center
The participants; 3 teachers ( Iyad, Hanadi S, Hanadi H), 9 students, 4 Japanese staffs( Mako, Nori, Taka, Miki)

It was last day of the SLC of environmental education. There were 2 students who were late to come because they got up very late. The teachers called up to tell them to come and then they came.

Today, the students made presentation as the outcome of their study. They have learnt the environmental issues and think of the solution from their perspectives. They put the drawing and pictures to express better what they have leant in the SLC.

The workshop was over 13:30, though it was supposed to be over at 11:00. Some students insisted to continue to work as to complete their presentation. In fact, it took time to make presentation for the students because they were not good at computer. However under full support from the social study teachers, all of the students could complete the presentation.

At the end of the SLC, the students completed their portfolio. For 4 days, the teachers prepared some worksheets. The teachers, under the support of Japanese staffs, sorted out their learning record into one file as to make portfolio. When the students got their portfolio, they seemed very brighten and said many thanks to teachers and Japanese staffs.

Mr. Nori, one who is the teacher of Japanese school, gave the certification to only the students who participated in the SLC full days. One student who came only half of the SLC could not get certification. It was hard decision for us not to give the certification to her, but we decided to respect the students who contributed very much in SLC.

In total, the SLC of environmental education was great and excellent. Most of students asked the teachers and Japanese staffs to continue more the activity of SLC because they insisted that they have learnt a lot. Not only the students but also the teachers and Japanese staffs also enjoyed so much in the SLC.

□■The feedback■□
※ ・
・ It was interesting to introduce Japanese culture by power points slide and green tea. The theme is to study about environmental issues, but they are studying with Japanese students. Therefore we should bring more advantage to learn with Japanese students in the project.
・ Well prepared before the workshop. We used projector, speaker, computer, and screen. But the preparation was well done so that the program went on very smoothly.
・ We wanted to use the desk top computer in Learning Resource Center, however, there are full of virus so that we were afraid to use it. And also some computers were out of work. The learning resource center staff should take care of computers more as to make people use computer whenever they want.
・ The movie Hanadi S and Hanadi H prepared was very good. Not only the contents but the length was suitable for the student to know world beautiful environment. If there have been more explanation of the movie and picture, it would be better.
・ The social study teacher prepared worksheet about environmental issues. It was very well prepared. The workshop could promote student’ thinking and facilitator enthusiastic discussion.
・ The students copied the drawing which they had drawn as rehearsal. Therefore it was not creative work but making copy.
・ It was good discussion after group work. There were many interaction between students.
・ The teaching method of teachers is outstanding. They use not only verbal but also nonverbal communication method. It attracted the students to learn more.
・ While the students draw, teachers discussed about the homework with Japanese staffs beside students. It was better to monitor and facilitate students’ drawing activity to make them concentrate on their work.
・ Now, the students are learning many things about environment. It will be more effective if they can observe real situation of environmental issues such as recycling, clearing streets and so on. Action learning is also effective way to learn as their own experience.

□■The objectives■□
・ The students understand more about environmental issues.
・ The students think of the reason of environmental issues.
・ The students try to think what they can do for solve the environmental issues from individual perspectives.

3) Presentation between Groups by one of the member of Group(5 min)
4) Discussion based on the students’ interest of environmental issues (20 min)
5) Drawing (60 min)
6) Feedback (10 min)

□■The feedback■□
・ Today, the electricity was cut and the teachers could not use the digital date which they were supposed to use for the program. However they improvise the activity. The teachers brought the chairs outside because inside of Learning Resource Center was very hot. The teachers used white board to promote discussion between students. It was very good facilitation. In Syria electricity cut happen very often. Therefore the teachers have to think of alternative activity when they use electric equipments like computer and projector.
・ The students started drawing without any difficulties. It is because the students have been learning about environment enough since May and it seemed to be easy to express their image. For example, the girl, Haya, draw that the fish on the sea was dying because of water pollution from factory. It is hard to image like this, but she has been studying about water pollution so that she could smoothly start to draw.
・ In Japan, the students do not draw same things.. UNRWA students practice drawing before making drawing. That is the differences between Japan and UNRWA. In Japan, the students are educated to image and create since they are very small. Therefore it was not very difficult for Japanese student to improvise and create new things. It would be very important for students to have experience to create new things through various activities.

・ The workshop was very exciting and the students seems to think and speak very much. In the workshop, two thinking tool were introduced as to promote student' higher order thinking (Image Map, KWL). For the first time, students were too shy to speak out. However after 1 hours, they seemed to feel relax and comfortable to work and study with other students.

The performance of teachers was perfect. Their team teaching was outstanding. It is because they have met very often to prepare the program. After the SLC, teachers gathered and discussed for 1 hours as to reflect their performance in the workshop. And also planed the workshop of the previous day.
